It’s just barely before midnight, so I’m about to put myself to bed. But I promised to linger here for a few minutes every day in November, so I’m doing my duty to myself, my brain, the words that have been asking to get out onto the page, and I’m showing up.
Puptron had a long day – as did I.
I got a special delivery from Sephora. I’m not usually fussy with my face, but I needed some spa-type face masks because I’m inspired lately to indulge in these things at home.
My mother enjoyed a wonderful afternoon with her grand-dog while I was out and about. We haven’t spent to much time apart yet (me and the pup), and she did a great job putting my crazy puppy parent anxiety at ease.
I got to treat her to lunch at home – an omelet, roasted eggplant, fennel salad with raita and gouda. She came with the roasted eggplant and gouda, so really, she was treating me!
I finished reading #Girlboss.
Dinner was salad, grilled chicken, and mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes came from Whole Foods. No shame – I’m happy with semi-home made when it means dinner in 15 minutes… and really any excuse to have some mashed potatoes.
There was a small slice of almond cream cake for dessert.
The weather was in the 70s on November 5th.
New England, you confuse me.

Here’s a public intention:
I’d like to commit to an hour a day reading throughout November. This means an hour a day that I’m not spending watching television. (Caveat that books on tape count, in my book.)
I read fiction to escape. Particularly Swedish mysteries, young adult novels, and other fast paced books. I also like literature that makes me think critically. I like the hard stuff, but it takes me a while to get through.
I read to learn. I read to grow.
I read nonfiction business books, because for every book I read, I latch on to a golden nugget, and drive myself into action.
I like the blog the millions. Do you know it?
For the past several years, I’ve used Goodreads.com to organize my reading. Today I re-organized my shelves with some inspiration from a few friends. I added several categories including business, design, psychology, tech startups, and writing. I also added two categories for female and male authors. My goal is to have the tally swing towards female authors by the end of the year.
Tonight I have a date with #Girlboss before I go to bed. What are you reading?

If you can’t find me, I’ll be curled up with these for the next foreseeable future. I think that’s about 1500 pages of reading right there.

Much of my free time these days is spent on adventures in the outdoors, adequately tuckering out Bertram the Frenchie! Here he is with a neighborhood friend Caesar! We do about two miles a day, sometimes a little bit more, and he’s a great walking partner.
This morning I opened my fall course – the Secrets of Self Care. It’s one of those twinkling moments – a mix of fear and excitement, launching something you’ve worked for a long time to build. And then… like that, it’s out in the world!
I’m keeping the program open for a day or two if you decide to hop on – 6 weeks where we turn inward, focus on taking care of ourselves, and bolster ourselves for the holiday season and the new year! Just send me an email – sam@samanthatackeff.com, and I’ll get you started!
Success!

November. Yes, it’s here! And so begins my usual foolhardy pursuit during the month of November – known as NaBloPoMo, a terrible acronym that announces my intent to blog every day of the month. Some of these posts will be brief, others longer. We start, as I usually do, with food.
Specifically, my cart tonight at Trader Joe’s.
A few notes on this cart, which contains some of my favorites:
sardines in olive oil – I eat these at least once a week. Sometimes as sardine salad. Sometimes mashed with some avocado. Occasionally with some balsamic. They are also my dog’s favorite snack.
shredded brussels sprouts – these are my all purpose fall greens – I usually cook them with the pancetta cubes – and some chicken thighs.
flowers – I buy myself some every week. During the summer I got to pick some gorgeous bouquets as part of my farm share, but alas, winter is nearly here, and I must make due with store bought.
Belgian chocolate pudding – what can I say about this? It’s thick, rich, and you are satisfied with a small amount. I don’t do dessert every day, but this is nice to have in the fridge in a pinch, if I need to satisfy my chocolate fix.
organic chicken thighs – this is one of my most consistent purchases from Trader Joe’s – one of the only meat purchases I make outside of my meat CSA. I don’t do breasts – thighs for life!
ezekiel bread – made from sprouted grains. We actually rarely have any bread products in our house, but I’ve been craving avocado toast.
I also have some almond milk for blended drinks, fennel, dill, and pork tenderloin to test a few recipes this week.
What are some of your Trader Joe’s favorites?
